Paula Broadbent Coaching

One of the most rewarding elements of my portfolio is executive coaching. Alongside this, I direct leadership programmes at a business school, conduct board reviews, and deliver a range of strategic development projects for organisations.

This mix of roles ensures that my coaching is grounded in both rigorous theory and the realities of senior leadership, and it allows me to support clients with a genuinely holistic perspective.

I've been working with organisations large and small for over 20 years, and a certified coach for over 10 years. Over the years I've done 100s of executive assessments, meaning 100s of hours exploring with senior executives describing how they get things done and what gets in their way, which informs my practice.

I've got a BSc in Business, an MSc in Psychology and a PGDip in Coaching.

I've been Programme Director for the General Management Programme at Cranfield University for the last 8 years.

I know what it takes to make the move successfully into senior roles.

At the moment I take on a limited number of coachees each quarter to ensure I have the space and focus for my other professional commitments (see waitlist details below).

Executive / Senior Leader Transitions Coaching

Full Programmes

Internal Promotion

Prepare and Land

Succession planning support helps individuals prepare for and successfully land more senior roles. Unlike external hires, internal candidates benefit from intimate knowledge of their organisation’s culture, networks, and tacit routines—an important asset.

However, moving into a new senior position also requires letting go of previous ways of working and shifting focus to the demands of the new role. Familiarity can present challenges such as arriving with a pre-determined assumptions and there is a risk of falling back on old habits,  so becoming overwhelmed, and may hinder fully stepping up.

Additionally, internal moves often involve navigating organisational politics, an unavoidable reality when the individual is well known within the organisation. Effective transition coaching supports leaders in managing these dynamics and adopting the appropriate leadership mindset needed for success at the next level.

 External Onboarding

They've landed the role. Now they need to land in the organisation.
Joining as a senior leader from outside means navigating unfamiliar dynamics, building credibility fast, and making the right early moves - all while everyone's watching.

For organisations hiring senior leaders from outside who need them to land successfully and quickly. External hires often struggle to decode organisational dynamics, prioritise effectively, and build credibility fast enough - costing time, momentum, and sometimes the hire itself.

For an overview of the research on how external hires without transition coaching support often underperform, see the Wharton study highlighting the “pay more, get less” effect, demonstrating why leadership transitions benefit significantly from tailored coaching.
